Covid-19: Laos ready for potential outbreak, says PM

(KPL) Today the Lao PDR is comprehensively ready to deal with possible outbreak of Covid-19 especially in terms of personnel, medical equipment, health facilities with Mittaphab Hospital and Hospital 103 designated as main hospitals dealing with Covid-19 cases,” said Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. 

Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on Monday visited border checkpoints at the first Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge, Wattay International Airport, and Mittaphab Hospital to inspect Covid-19 surveillance and preventive measures taken by relevant authorities.

Prime Minister urged immigration authorities and relevant sectors to attach greater attention to the screening of people entering and leaving the country and ask the Lao people of all ethnic groups to comply with measures the government has taken and keep themselves updated about the disease on a regular basis and not to disseminate to the public groundless information and misinformation about the disease.

In an effort to prevent possible outbreak of the disease in the country, the government has taken a number of preventive measures including the recent announcement of an order to suspend mass gatherings, celebration of days of national importance, the 11th National Games (Xieng Khuang Games), weddings, social events, and close kindergartens.
