(KPL) On January 26, 2026 – The Government of Japan has provided grant assistance worth USD 70,526 for “The Project for the Construction of Pangthong Primary School Building in Bokeo Province” under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), aiming to enhance the learning environment for students and teachers.

The project supports the construction of a new classroom building and the provision of essential school equipment at Pangthong Village, Pha-Oudom District, Bokeo Province. It is designed to improve educational conditions and create a safer, more conducive learning environment for children in the community and surrounding areas.

The grant contract was officially signed by Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao P.D.R., and a representative of the provincial authorities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Koizumi emphasized that the Japanese Government places great importance on education and human resource development, noting that education plays a vital role in nurturing individuals who will shape the future of any nation. He expressed his hope that the successful implementation of the project would lead to significant improvements in the learning environment for children in Pangthong Village and nearby communities, who will contribute to the future development of Bokeo Province and the Lao P.D.R.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) supports small-scale development initiatives that directly benefit local communities by promoting economic and social development in developing countries, including the Lao P.D.R.

To date, the Government of Japan has provided more than USD 1.14 million in assistance to Bokeo Province, primarily in the fields of education and infrastructure. As part of ongoing efforts to address regional disparities in socio-economic development, Japan reaffirmed its commitment to continuing support for grassroots-level initiatives in the Lao P.D.R., in line with the principle of ensuring that “no one is left behind.”
