(KPL)  The Agriculture and Forestry Office of Viengkham District, Luang Prabang Province, recently presented the bamboo conservation project during a meeting chaired by Ms. Bounleum Keovongchit, Deputy Head of the Viengkham District Agriculture and Forestry Office. The event was attended by representatives from relevant offices, project partners, and authorities from the target villages of Ngoi and Viengkham districts.

The bamboo conservation project is a small grant initiative funded under the Laos-Australia Alumni (AIG) program, approved by the Australian Government through the Laos-Australia Institute (LAI). Launched in 2020, the project aims to strengthen communities in the sustainable management of bamboo, ensuring environmental conservation, income generation, and preservation of cultural heritage. The initiative also serves as a model for replication in other communities.

During the meeting, participants discussed planned activities designed to deliver tangible benefits to villagers of all ethnicities, while promoting a clean, green, and sustainable environment.

Ms. Bounleum Keovongchit urged the target village administrations to educate and train residents on the project’s objectives and goals, encouraging active participation in forest conservation and recognition of bamboo’s importance. She emphasized the need to establish management regulations, implement appropriate measures against violators, appoint task forces with clear responsibilities for monitoring and inspection, and provide regular progress reports. Additionally, she called for efforts to protect and expand bamboo areas, ensuring long-term sustainability for the local environment and communities.
