(KPL) The “2026 Ethnic Cultural Festival for Tourism Promotion” was held last weekend in Oudomxay Province, drawing wide participation from leaders, officials, local residents, and domestic and international tourists.

The event was attended by Mr. Khamphan Pheuyavong, Member of the Party Central Committee Political Bureau, and Mr. Bounkong Larchiamphon, Secretary of the Oudomxay Provincial Party Committee, together with representatives from relevant government sectors, the armed forces, the business community, and the public.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Souvat Mahavongsananh, Vice Chairman of the Oudomxay Provincial Administration Committee, said the festival was organized amid a nationwide atmosphere celebrating major national milestones. These include the successful outcomes of three historic national days and the 12th National Party Congress. In Oudomxay, efforts are focused on implementing the resolutions of the 10th Provincial Party Congress, organizing activities to mark the 77th anniversary of the Lao People’s Army, and preparing for the upcoming elections of the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils.

Mr. Souvat highlighted Oudomxay’s strong tourism potential, noting the province’s quality accommodation facilities and renowned natural and cultural attractions, including Nam Kat Yorla Pa, Chom Ong Cave, and Wat Phachao Singkham.

Oudomxay is home to 12 ethnic groups—Lao, Khmu, Hmong, Tai, Lue, Yang, Bit, Lamet, Iu-Mien, Akha, Phounoy, and Hor—who have lived together for generations. Each group maintains its own distinctive culture, traditions, and language, while sharing a long-standing spirit of unity and cooperation that contributes to the protection and development of the province.

The festival also promoted the province’s official tourism slogan:

“Visit Oudomxay: Experience the nature of Nam Kat Yorla Pa, admire the cultures of various ethnic groups, pay respects to Phachao Singkham, enjoy thousand-year-old tea, and take a boat trip to view the Mekong River scenery.”

The opening ceremony featured lively cultural performances, including traditional music and dances, as well as a fashion show presenting the traditional costumes of the 12 ethnic groups, vividly reflecting Oudomxay’s rich and valuable cultural heritage.
