KPL Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his spouse visited flood-affected families in Sanasomboun District, Champasak Province, to distribute essential relief supplies and assess damage caused by recent flooding.

During the visit, the Prime Minister personally handed over aid packages—comprising rice, drinking water, noodles, and other daily necessities—valued at over 397 million kip to residents in eight of the district’s most severely affected villages.

According to Ms. Phouphaythong Phimmavongsa, Secretary of the Sanasomboun District Party Committee, the district experienced three separate flood events in 2025, inundating more than 1,043 hectares of rice fields.

Khili Village was among the hardest hit. Out of 392 households, 30 families (125 individuals) were directly affected, with 23.8 hectares of crops completely destroyed out of 48.73 hectares of flooded farmland. Thanks to the timely actions of local authorities, vehicles and livestock were moved to higher ground, preventing further losses.

Infrastructure also suffered damage, including broken power poles and road erosion in Nongno and Tafangcheun villages. In the immediate aftermath, provincial and district authorities provided emergency assistance worth over 101 million kip, while international partners helped by constructing temporary shelters and distributing clothing and other essential items.

Prime Minister Sonexay reaffirmed the Party and government’s solidarity with those affected, emphasizing that the government stands by its people during times of hardship. He noted that climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent and severe across the country, urging citizens to remain united and resilient.
