This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. To commemorate the milestone, both sides have organized a series of joint activities and plan to host a celebratory event later this year.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties on September 5, 1955, bilateral cooperation has continued to grow. The two nations have enjoyed fruitful collaboration in various fields, including health, education, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance. The UK has also supported capacity-building efforts by providing training across multiple sectors, contributing significantly to the development of the Lao PDR

The two countries have maintained regular exchanges of official delegations, strengthening ties between ministries and sectors on both sides.
