In a high-level meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam on January 26, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, To Lam, warmly congratulated the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) on the successful conclusion of its 12th National Congress, praising the significant achievements made under its leadership.

The remarks came during a meeting at the International Convention Centre in Hanoi where visiting Lao President and LPRP Secretary General Thongloun Sisoulith briefed Vietnamese leaders about the success of the 12th National Congress of LPRP.
President Thongloun, on his first overseas visit since the landmark congress, is undertaking a two-day state visit to Vietnam to brief Vietnamese leaders on its outcomes.
The Congress, convened under the theme “Enhancing the Party's Strong Leadership, Proactively Building an Independent and Self-Reliant Economy, Continuing to Consolidate the People's Democratic Regime, and Advancing towards Socialism” reviewed the implementation of resolutions from the previous congress and charted the course for the nation’s future.

Key outcomes highlighted by President Thongloun included the adoption of major Party and national documents and the election of new central leadership bodies. A cornerstone achievement was the approval of the 3rd Party Political Programme. This guiding document is designed to lead the Party and the multi-ethnic Lao people in upholding the people’s democratic regime and deepening the renovation policy initiated by President Kaysone Phomvihane.
The new Political Programme outlines 11 key policies for advancing toward socialism, approves 10 priority areas for development, and endorses the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026-2030). Revisions to the Party statutes were also ratified.
Furthermore, the Congress elected the 12th Central Committee of the LPRP, comprising 73 full members and 15 alternate members. The Committee subsequently elected a 13-member Politburo and an 11-member Secretariat to lead the Party’s work in the coming term.
