(KPL/Prensa Latina) Singapore reports 10 cases of measles this year and revives the call to strengthen prevention measures against the disease.
While the Asian nation eliminated measles in 2018, reported cases as of the week ending, are nearing last year’s total of 11, according to the Ministry of Health’s weekly infectious disease bulletin.
Experts say that while this does not indicate a local resurgence, regional and global trends require attention.
Dr. Alex Cook, of the Saw Swee Hock Public Health School at the National University of Singapore, attributes the regional increase to the disruption of routine immunization programs caused by COVID-19.
However, for experts, the recent figures in Singapore are so far not a cause for great concern.
