(KPL/Prensa Latina) Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed opened on Tuesday Africa's leading event on digital identity, ID4Africa 2025, to boost the sector's systems across the continent.
ID4Africa is a pan-African movement committed to supporting African nations in building robust and accountable identity ecosystems to drive socio-economic development, digital transformation, and humanitarian initiatives.
In his opening address, Ahmed highlighted the local transition from a fragmented system to Fayda, a secure and inclusive digital ID initiative launched under the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy.
He underscored, “With over 15 million people already enrolled and a target of 90 million, Fayda is connecting all citizens, particularly women, youth, and displaced communities, to essential services.”
He mentioned the integration of key sectors such as finance, health, education, and the ability to conduct million-dollar transactions. Fayda (the Amharic name that signifies value) is not just a card, it is a unique identification number that proves who you are, while protecting your privacy and sharing only what is necessary.
The ID4Africa 2025 Conference will run until May 23 under the theme “Digital Identity at Scale: Prioritizing Use, Accelerating Impact.” It brings together more than 2,000 delegates from over 95 countries.
The program includes master lectures, round-table discussions, national reports, and a major exhibition highlighting cutting-edge digital identity solutions.
