Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith (L) meets Party Secretary of Chongqing Yuan Jiajun on Jun 19 in China

(KPL) Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith received a courtesy call from Party Secretary of Chongqing Yuan Jiajun on Jun 19.

At amicable talks, President Thongloun highly valued the achievements in the socio economic development of Chongqing, especially its achievements in implementing the resolution of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, poverty reduction, as well as its development strategy of turning itself into a major economic hub, and a centre of international land-sea trade corridor that links western China with ASEAN.

He spoke highly of Chongqing authorities’ attention to strengthening the relations between the two Parties, governments of Laos and China as well as to the implementation of the agreements reached by top Party leaders of the two countries on promoting the building of a Laos-China community of a shared future.

Sharing his points of view on future cooperation between Laos and Chongqing, the President called on both sides to continue to explore cooperation in the areas in which they are competitive such as freight transport, noting that this will help Laos better access central and western regions of China, thus facilitating the transport of Lao goods to the third countries via Chongqing and from goods from Chongqing to Laos and other ASEAN countries.

He called on both sides to continue to promote people to people exchange, deepen exchange of theories and lessons on rural development, and poverty reduction, and urge Chinese investors and companies to invest in Laos and Chinese people to visit the Southeast Asian country.

In reply, Yuan Jiajun highly valued President Thongloun’s visit to China and Chongqing in particular.

He informed the President about the socio-economic development in Chongqing as well as achievements in the relations and cooperation between Chongqing and the Lao PDR.

He expressed his agreement to continue to promote the implementation of the agreements reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and governments of Laos and China to strengthen the relations and cooperation between the two countries over years to come.

On this occasion, the President also visited Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Hall, a historic place of the Communist Party of China, and well-known business establishments of Chongqing.
