Laos plans to renovate airports

KPL (KPL) The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has proposed a plan to renovate the domestic airports and new international airports in the country. The plan was proposed by the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr Bounchanh Sinthavong at a recent government meeting. Under plan, four international airports will be renovated including the Wattay International Airport in Vientiane Capital, the Luang Prabang International Airport, the Savannakhet International Airport, and the Pakse International Airport in Champassak Province.

(KPL) The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has proposed a plan to renovate the domestic airports and new international airports in the country.

The plan was proposed by the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr Bounchanh Sinthavong at a recent government meeting.

Under plan, four international airports will be renovated including the Wattay International Airport in Vientiane Capital, the Luang Prabang International Airport, the Savannakhet International Airport, and the Pakse International Airport in Champassak Province.

The six domestic airports to be renovated are in the provinces of Oudomxay, Luang Namtha, Huaphan, Phongsaly, Xayaboury and Borikhamxay.

Mr Bounchanh added that four regional airports are to be upgraded as international airports including in the provinces of Xieng Khuang, Bokeo, Seno of Savannakhet and Attapeu. The aim of the upgrades of the four regional airports is to promote trade and tourism.

The renovation of the Wattay International Airport is to support the landing of aircraft with 350 seats and to have a parking apron that can accommodate up to 48 airplanes.

The renovation of all airports aims to support three million passengers per year.

Mr Bounchan said that the construction of a new international airport in Vientiane Capital will start around 2025 to 2030 with a landing capacity that can accommodate Boeing 747s and Airbus 330s.

The new Seno airport in Savannakhet Province plans to be built outside the district.
