KPL The Government of Japan has provided a grant of USD 77,500 for an education project in Phongsaly Province through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). The initiative aims to improve access to quality primary education and enhance the learning environment for children in rural communities.

The grant will support the construction of a new school building and toilet facilities, along with the provision of school furniture at Laosane Primary School in Laosane Village, Samphanh District, Phongsaly Province. These improvements will help ensure that students have access to a safe, hygienic, and conducive learning environment. The grant agreement was signed by Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR, and a representative of the Phongsaly Provincial Authority.

“With the completion of the new school building at Laosane Primary School, children will be able to study in a safe and comfortable environment,” said Ambassador Koizumi. “An equally important goal is to improve sanitation by constructing a toilet building that meets the standards set by the Ministry of Education and Sports. I hope that the local authorities and community will take ownership of maintaining the facility so it continues to benefit children for many years to come.”

Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) provides funding for small-scale initiatives that directly improve the lives of local residents by promoting economic and social development in developing countries, including the Lao PDR.

To date, the Government of Japan has contributed over USD 780,000 to Phongsaly Province, mainly in the areas of education and health. Japan remains committed to supporting efforts that reduce regional disparities and improve living standards at the grassroots level — ensuring that “no one is left behind.”
