Lao Foreign Minister Pays Courtesy Call on Mongolian Prime Minister

KPL As part of his official visit to Mongolia and participation in the 10th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Forum for East Asia–Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) on August 21, Foreign Minister of the Lao PDR Thongsavanh Phomvihane and his delegation paid a courtesy call on Mongolian Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar at the State Palace in Ulaanbaatar.

(KPL) As part of his official visit to Mongolia and participation in the 10th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Forum for East Asia–Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) on August 21, Foreign Minister of the Lao PDR Thongsavanh Phomvihane and his delegation paid a courtesy call on Mongolian Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar at the State Palace in Ulaanbaatar.

Minister Thongsavanh expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Mongolian government and conveyed cordial greetings and best wishes from Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and President of the National Assembly of Laos Xaysomphone Phomvihane to Prime Minister Zandanshatar. He also congratulated Mr. Zandanshatar on his election as Mongolia’s new Prime Minister in July 2025 and extended felicitations on the 819th National Day of Mongolia, celebrated on July 11, 2025.

The Lao Foreign Minister briefed the Mongolian leader on the outcome of his meeting with Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh on August 20, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening traditional friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Laos and Mongolia.

They agreed to further enhance ties in the fields of Party-to-Party relations, parliaments, national defense, public health, agriculture, education, trade, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Minister Thongsavanh also expressed appreciation for Mongolia’s support in the past, particularly its contributions to the improvement of the Lao-Mongolian Friendship Hospital in Xieng Khuang, the deployment of Mongolian medical experts, and the donation of 1,050 sheep to the Lao government in 2018.

For his part, Prime Minister Zandanshatar extended a warm welcome to Minister Thongsavanh and conveyed cordial greetings to National Assembly President Xaysomphone Phomvihane, recalling their past cooperation when he served as Chairman of the State Great Khural, and to Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

He highly valued the Lao Foreign Minister’s official visit to Mongolia, including his participation in the 10th FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, as a significant contribution to strengthening friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Zandanshatar also praised the success of the 12th meeting of the Lao–Mongolian Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, hosted by Laos in January 2025, and encouraged both sides to continue implementing the outcomes of the meeting as well as agreements previously signed, in order to bring tangible benefits to the two countries and their peoples.
