(KPL) Vice President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Pany Yathortou on August 21 warmly welcomed her Vietnamese counterpart, Vo Thi Anh Xuan, who is paying an official visit to Laos on August 21–22 at the invitation of the Lao Vice President.

The visit, the first by Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan since assuming office, is aimed at further strengthening and expanding the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Vietnam.

Vice President Pany described the visit as a significant contribution to consolidating the traditional bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two countries, particularly as Laos and Vietnam prepare to celebrate historic milestones — the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao PDR.

During their talks, the two Vice Presidents exchanged views in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual trust. They briefed each other on their respective countries’ socio-economic development, expressed appreciation for recent achievements, and reaffirmed their commitment to further advancing bilateral cooperation in all fields.

Both sides noted with satisfaction the steady progress in bilateral cooperation. High-level exchanges between central and local delegations have deepened mutual trust. A highlight was the joint attendance of the two Presidents at the inauguration of Wharf No. 3 of Vung Ang Port in April 2025.

The two countries continue to maintain close coordination to address emerging challenges. The successful joint survey of the Annamite Range–Ho Chi Minh Trail underscored the shared revolutionary history of Laos and Vietnam.

Laos and Vietnam have closely coordinated in providing advice to their Party and State leaderships and extended mutual support at regional and international fora.

Economic and trade

Bilateral trade has continued to grow steadily, with Vietnam among the leading investors in the Lao PDR.

Science and technology, education, health, culture, sports, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges have also achieved encouraging results, while major strategic cooperation projects are being advanced with tangible progress.

Both sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to preserving and promoting the unique ties of solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, considering them a priceless legacy to be passed on to future generations.
