(KPL) The Government of Japan has extended grant assistance of USD 89,600 to support pre-primary and primary education in Oudomxay Province under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) initiative.

The grant will fund the construction of a new school building and toilet facilities, along with the provision of school furniture at Laovang Kindergarten and Primary School in Laovang Village, La District. This initiative aims to enhance access to education and improve learning conditions for young children in the region.

The grant was signed in Vientiane, March 4, 2025 by Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao P.D.R., and a representative of the Oudomxay provincial authority.

"With the completion of the new school building, children will have a safe and spacious learning environment. Another key objective of this project is to improve hygiene standards at the school by constructing toilet facilities that meet the Ministry of Education and Sports' requirements. We hope construction will be completed without delay to enhance both learning and hygiene conditions as soon as possible," Ambassador Koizumi stated.

GGP provides funding for small-scale projects that directly benefit local communities by improving economic and social development in developing countries, including Laos.

To date, Japan has contributed over USD 2.5 million to Oudomxay Province, supporting sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, water supply, and agriculture. In line with efforts to reduce regional disparities and promote inclusive development, Japan remains committed to improving grassroots living standards in the Lao P.D.R., ensuring that "no one is left behind."
