(KPL) On October 19, in Vientiane, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his delegation held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Igor Sergeyenko, President of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, and his team.

PM Sonexay expressed his appreciation for Mr. Sergeyenko’s official visit and participation in the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly.

He emphasized that this visit contributes significantly to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Belarus and supports Laos in fulfilling its international duties as the Chair of AIPA 2024.

The Prime Minister also conveyed warm greetings to his Belarusian counterpart, Mr. Roman Golovchenko.

Despite the current global and regional complexities, the relationship between Laos and Belarus continues to flourish.

Both sides acknowledged that while cooperation agreements in areas such as politics, economy, trade, investment, education, health, culture, and tourism have been signed, the full implementation of these agreements has been hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

PM Sonexay praised the recent meeting between the Presidents of the National Assemblies of Laos and Belarus, which provided an opportunity to review past cooperation, exchange views on regional and international matters of mutual interest, and set directions for future collaboration.

He further expressed support for continued cooperation between the two national parliaments, particularly in implementing the memorandum of understanding on parliamentary cooperation.

This includes the exchange of high-level delegations and efforts to monitor and encourage the implementation of treaties, contracts, and agreements signed by both governments.
