Vice Minister of Planning and Investment, Sthabandith Insisienmay

"The launch of the SDG Investor Map towards sustainable development comes at an opportune time, as Laos is striving to improve mechanisms to attract quality investments that can contribute to inclusive and sustainable development," said Vice-Minister Sthabandith Insisienmay during his opening remarks.

He further emphasized the government's efforts to integrate sustainable financing strategies into the 9th National Socio-Economic Development Plan, highlighting the importance of aligning investments with the revised Investment Promotion Law. The SDG Investor Map is set to play a crucial role in these efforts by identifying investment opportunities that support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ms. Martine Thérer, Resident Representative of UNDP Lao PDR

Ms. Martine Thérer, Resident Representative of UNDP Lao PDR, stated, "The SDG Investor Map identifies investment opportunities that align with the SDGs and can drive transformative change, accelerating Laos' sustainable development trajectory."

The map is designed to guide investors, policymakers, and stakeholders by offering policy recommendations that enhance the investment climate. It also highlights areas where investments can make the most impact, particularly in addressing challenges like poverty, inequality, and environmental sustainability.

The SDG Investor Map surfaces Investment Opportunity Areas (IOAs) that are commercially attractive and align with SDG objectives. These IOAs will be uploaded to the Global SDG Impact Platform, facilitating private sector investment and innovative financing in Laos.

Laos joins other ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, in adopting the SDG Investor Map to attract sustainable investments and drive development efforts.
