(KPL) People’s representatives yesterday exchanged points of view on the amendments to the national constitution at the ongoing 8th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly (7th legislature).

The constitutional amendments were proposed on Wednesday by Vice President of the National Assembly Somphanh Phengkhammy.

One of the amendments concerned the granting to the Prime Minister of the Lao PDR more decisive authority regarding the removal of Vientiane Mayors and provincial governors and their deputies.

Approval by the National Assembly is needed for the addition of 12 articles and three chapters to the current constitution enacted in 2003.

The current constitution of the Lao People's Democratic Republic was amended in 2003 with changes made to five of the 11 chapters including National Assembly, the President of the State, Government, Local Administration, and People's Courts, and Public Prosecutor.

“I would like to share with you my points of view on Articles 77-79 including rights and duties of the Lao Front for National Construction, the rights and duties of the National Assembly, and Government,” said National Assembly member for the 3rd constituency (Luang Namtha Province), Ms Latsamy Mingboupha.
