(KPL) More than 300 traffic police officers are ready to ensure security and order during the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and related summits to be held in Vientiane early next month.
“The Traffic Police Department is ready to keep security and ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the organizing of the summits,” said Vientiane Traffic Police Department Chief Lt. Col. Youttaphong Souvannasing.
The Vientiane Public Works and Transport Department has announced a ban on the use of heavy trucks on 15 main roads in the capital city by companies, enterprises, offices, or members of the general public.
The ban, which will run from Aug 22 to Sept 10, is imposed on any truck with a gross weight of seven tonnes or more and includes both lorries and trailers.
The ban also applies to big trucks carrying beer or beverages. Small beer and beverage trucks are allowed to be driven on such roads during the summits.
Heavy trucks coming from Road 13 North wishing to use Thadeua Road are advised to take Nongbeuk Road, Dongdok Road, or the 450 Year Road as detours.
Heavy trucks crossing the 1st Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge en route to northern or southern provinces are also recommended to use the 450 Year Road.
Any trucks with a gross weight of seven tones or more including lorries and trailers are banned from entering the following roads during the hosting of ASEAN Summits and related meetings:
- Souphanouvong Road (Sikhay intersection-Sihome intersection)
- Setthathirath Avenue
- Samsenthai Road
- Chao Fangum Road
- Donchan Road
- Thaduea Road (Nonghay intersection-Thatkhao intersection)
- Asean Road
- Sithong Road
- Kaysone Phomvihane Avenue
- Lane Xang Avenue
- Nongbone Road
- Dongpalan Road
- 23 Singha Road
- Lao-Thai Road and
- Dongpayna Road.
