(KPL) The National Assembly’s 8th Legislature has a plan to make and amend 105 laws from 2016 to 2020 to ensure effective state management and governance based on obligatory law.
The plan, which was proposed by new Vice President of the National Assembly Ms Sisay Leudetmounsone, was approved at the first plenary session of the NA held in Vientiane on April 22.
Of the total proposed laws, 50 are new laws and the others are amended laws, according to Ms Sisay’s report.
She explained that the laws apply to five fields including governance and justice, economics, socio-culture, national defense-public security, and foreign affairs.
To reach the target, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly’s 8th Legislature will focus on making and amending laws that must be specific, detailed, and applicable to current conditions in the country. Each law will be made by relevant committees of the NA in coordination with relevant ministries and organisations.
“Over the past five years (2011-2015), 75 laws have been made or amended which equalled about 83 per cent of the set plan. Of the 75 laws, 37 were new laws,” Ms Sisay said.
Presently, the Lao PDR has a total of 119 laws, which is an increase of 37 laws when compared to 2010.
In 2015, the National Assembly approved the amended Constitution of the Lao PDR.
