(KPL) Laos hosted a formal ceremony today commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The event took place in Vientiane and was attended by Vice President Bounthong Chitmany, Politburo member, alongside high-ranking leaders from the Party, state, National Assembly, Government, Lao Front for National Development, and mass organizations, as well as former Party and state officials.

In his opening remarks, Vice President Bounthong Chitmany highlighted the historical origins of the event, tracing back to the founding of the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930 by President Ho Chi Minh—an event that set the foundation for both the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. He emphasized how the Vietnamese Party has served as a vanguard in guiding its people to pivotal victories: particularly, the August Revolution and the proclamation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.

Following complete national liberation, Bounthong noted, Vietnam’s Party, state, and populace have continued to defend and develop a socialist nation amid changing circumstances. He praised the Party’s leadership during transformative phases, underscoring its steadfast principles, strategic reforms, and coordination between political stability and economic development. Special mention was made of the 7th National Congress in 1991, which heralded a political roadmap for Vietnam’s socialist construction.

Representing Vietnam, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam expressed heartfelt appreciation to Laos, lauding the nation’s exceptional honor in being the only country to hold such a commemoration ceremony outside Vietnam. This, he stated, reflects the deep, strategic friendship between the two nations.

Ambassador Nguyen reaffirmed that Vietnam’s achievements over the past eight decades were deeply supported by international partners—especially Laos—whose solidarity and assistance have been instrumental. He added that shared struggles in national liberation have knit the two countries together in enduring bonds of cooperation and mutual development.

Echoing the sentiment, Bounthong Chitmany expressed Laos’ lasting commitment to deepening its alliance with Vietnam. He pledged continued collaboration with the Party, government, and people of Vietnam to preserve and advance their special solidarity, great friendship, and comprehensive cooperation—values central to both nations’ futures.
