(KPL) On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution Victory Day and the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a high-level Party and State delegation of the Lao PDR, led by Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Lao PDR, paid an official visit to Hanoi on September 2, 2025.
During the visit, Comrade Thongloun held talks with Comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Comrade Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
Comrade Thongloun expressed gratitude for the warm, fraternal welcome extended by the Vietnamese leaders, Party, Government, and people. He congratulated Vietnam on the 80th anniversary of its founding, emphasizing the great historical significance of the August Revolution of 1945 and the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam—now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
He recalled that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people fought heroically for independence and freedom, culminating in the Spring Victory of 1975. This victory, he noted, was also the result of the unity and joint struggle of the three Indochinese nations and served as a driving force for the Lao people’s liberation struggle, which led to the establishment of the Lao PDR on December 2, 1975.
Comrade Thongloun also praised Vietnam’s recent achievements, including strong anti-corruption efforts, reforms in Party and State governance, rapid economic growth, political stability, and Vietnam’s growing regional and international role. He expressed admiration for the success of Comrade To Lam’s recent state visit to the Republic of Korea and acknowledged the significance of Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan’s recent official visit to Laos in further deepening the special Laos-Vietnam relationship.
On behalf of the Lao Party, State, and people, he extended sincere gratitude for Vietnam’s consistent support, including assistance in facilitating Lao use of Vietnamese seaports, support for Laos’ Stone Forest World Heritage recognition alongside Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, and the recognition of the Phou Luang Route–Ho Chi Minh Trail sites as national heritage of Laos.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues, briefed each other on national developments, and discussed future cooperation. The leaders reaffirmed that Laos–Vietnam relations remain steadfast, with strong political trust, expanding defense, security, and foreign affairs cooperation, and growing ties in trade, investment, science, culture, and education—bringing tangible benefits to both peoples.
