(KPL) The Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU), an organisation that represents workers, will mark the 60th anniversary of its founding from 26 January-3 February.

The Lao Federation of Trade Unions Day was established on 1 February 1956.  The key role of the LFTU is to protect the rights and benefits of workers, to train workers and to contribute to state and social development according to the policies of the Party.

Vice President of the LFTU, Mr Simoun Ounlasy said last week that the LFTU had grown consistently over the years and that grand meetings had been held on seven occasions with the first being held in 1983.  The most recent meeting, held in October of 2015, drew over 400 delegates and Mr Pan Noimany was selected as the new president of the LFTU.

Currently, the LFTU has expanded into all 17 provinces nationwide and has 36 branches in the ministries.

This year’s celebration, to be held on February 1st, is expected to be the organisation’s biggest and will be held at the National Culture Hall in Vientiane.

The LFTU is also organising a trade fair that will be held from 26 January to 3 February at Lao-ITECC where a fashion show will be performed.

All branches of the LFTU in ministries and provinces have been called upon to organise sporting competitions and art performances to mark the anniversary of the LFTU.

Representatives of the LFTU have also called on members to send achievements and products to be displayed at the coming trade fair.
