The Ministry of Technology and Communications (MTC) has officially launched the latest iteration of its official communication platform, G-Chat v2, integrated with a bespoke national artificial intelligence system, LaoAI.

The unveiling ceremony, held on 6 April 2026, marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s digital transformation strategy.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, alongside other senior Party and state officials. The deployment of this unified system is designed to provide a secure and streamlined communication environment for civil servants across the country.

A Focus on Cybersecurity and Sovereignty

During his keynote address, Mr Santisouk Simmalavong, the Minister of Technology and Communications, outlined three core objectives behind the development of the new platform namely enhancing cyber security, technological sovereignty, and administrative modernisation.

The Role of LaoAI

The most significant upgrade in G-Chat v2 is the inclusion of LaoAI, a national artificial intelligence tool developed to serve as an intelligent assistant for the public sector. The AI provides several key functionalities intended to enhance productivity:

Document Summarisation: The ability to condense lengthy reports into concise, actionable summaries.

Drafting Assistance: Supporting officials in the creation of formal government correspondence and documentation.

Regulatory Knowledge: Providing instant access to and clarification on various national laws and regulations.

Translation Services: Offering professional-standard language translation to facilitate international cooperation.

The integration of LaoAI is expected to significantly decrease administrative overlap and allow civil servants to focus on specialised, high-priority tasks.

In his closing remarks, the Minister urged all ministries and state organisations to integrate G-Chat v2 and LaoAI into their daily operations. He emphasised that the adoption of these tools is essential for the establishment of a modern, secure digital government capable of meeting the demands of the current era.
