(KPL) On April 7 — The 9th Congress of the Lao Front for National Development in Vientiane focused on strengthening national unity, advancing socio-economic development and accelerating poverty reduction efforts over the next five years.

The meeting, held at the Vientiane Administration Office, brought together senior officials including Atsaphangthong Siphandone, secretary of the Vientiane Party Committee and president of the Vientiane People’s Council, and Laopao Xong Navongxay, vice president of the central LFND. The session was chaired locally by Phongsavanh Siliphanh, president of the LFND in Vientiane.

Development and unity efforts

In a political report, Phongsavanh Siliphanh said the LFND has, over the past five years, mobilized people across ethnic groups to support national development and safeguard stability.

Officials reported improvements in living standards, including better access to education and healthcare, along with the promotion of cultural traditions and legal awareness.

By 2025, authorities said 434 “solidarity and reconciliation villages” — about 90% of all villages — had been established, along with one model district.

Religion and social cohesion

The LFND also emphasized its role in promoting religious harmony and social integration, including public education on constitutional rights related to belief and non-belief.

Authorities said efforts have focused on uniting religious communities under shared civic responsibilities while aligning practices with national laws and development goals tied to the country’s socio-economic development plan.

Challenges ahead

Looking ahead to 2026–2030, officials acknowledged ongoing economic pressures and the need to counter misinformation and external influences that could undermine national unity.

They also stressed the importance of modernizing LFND operations to respond to evolving social and global challenges.

Leadership appointments

The congress approved a new LFND leadership team for Vientiane, reaffirming Phongsavanh Siliphanh as president, along with eight vice presidents and a newly appointed inspection committee.

Organizers said the outcomes of the congress set the direction for continued coordination between government and mass organizations to support inclusive development and poverty reduction in the capital.
