(KPL) President Thongloun Sisoulith on Feb 23 extended a message of congratulations to Emperor Naruhito of Japan on the occasion of his 66th birthday, which marks Japan’s National Day.
In his message, the Lao leader highlighted the continued strengthening of longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Lao PDR and Japan, noting the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in January 2025. He also recalled the official visit of Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko to the Lao PDR, which contributed to further enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
The president emphasized that the celebration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 60th anniversary of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers programme in Laos reflects the growing partnership that benefits both peoples and supports peace, stability and development cooperation in the region.
He extended best wishes to the Emperor, the Empress and members of the Imperial Family for good health, happiness and longevity, as well as continued prosperity for the people of Japan.
On the same occasion, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane also sent congratulatory messages to their Japanese counterparts.
