Central and Provincial Leaders Cast Votes as Xieng Khuang Goes to the Polls

KPL On the morning of 22 February 2026, a significant political atmosphere took hold across Xieng Khuang Province as citizens gathered for the elections of the 10th National Assembly (NA) and the 5th Xieng Khuang Provincial People’s Council.

The main polling station at the Pek District Hall, a key electoral hub, saw a high turnout of senior officials and local residents.

Among those exercising their right to vote were Mr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, Member of the Party Central Committee Political Bureau and President of the Lao Front for National Development—standing as the number one candidate for Constituency 9 (Xieng Khuang)—and Mr Phouvong Ounkhamsen, Secretary of the Xieng Khuang Provincial Party Committee, standing as candidate number two.

The leaders were joined by senior provincial and district officials, civil servants, and a large number of residents from the Pek District municipal area, all arriving early to participate in the democratic process.

Electoral Statistics

For Constituency 9 (Xieng Khuang), the scale of the election is substantial, with 10 candidates contesting 7 seats in the 10th National Assembly and 49 candidates contesting 35 seats on the Xieng Khuang Provincial People’s Council. The turnout of eligible voters was estimated at over 174,000.

To maintain transparency, the proceedings began with a formal inspection and opening of the ballot boxes in full view of the public. Voters queued in an orderly fashion to register and receive their ballot papers before entering private booths to make their selections.

Commitment to National Development

The polling stations were meticulously organised, featuring displays of candidates' photographs and biographies to allow voters to make informed decisions. According to local observers, the high turnout reflects the strong political awareness and unity of the diverse ethnic groups within Xieng Khuang.

By casting their votes, residents aim to elect representatives who possess the necessary qualifications to defend the rights and interests of the people. This collective participation is seen as a vital contribution to national construction and the continued prosperity of Xieng Khuang Province.
