(KPL)  According to China Media Group, during the summary meeting of the Lao–China Cooperation Committee for 2025, Mr. Bounlua Sinxayvolavong, Governor of Luang Prabang Province, gave an interview stating that Chinese investment has played a significant role in promoting socio-economic development in Luang Prabang Province.

Mr. Bounlua stated that the People’s Republic of China is currently the largest investor in Luang Prabang Province, with more than 40 investment projects valued at over USD 400 million, and more than 500 Chinese business entities with a combined investment value exceeding 6,000 billion kip. These investments have made an important contribution to the province’s economic recovery, particularly in tourism-related sectors, including tourism site development, hotel construction, and service industries, which have helped attract a growing number of domestic and international visitors.

In addition to investment, Lao–China cooperation has also provided substantial support through various assistance projects, especially in the public health and education sectors. These include provincial hospital improvement projects, school construction and upgrading, the 4x100 project, and initiatives to promote Chinese language learning. Such cooperation has helped raise education and healthcare standards, improve the quality of life of local people, and contribute to poverty reduction.

The Governor further emphasized that Lao–China cooperation in recent years has delivered tangible benefits to the people and achieved positive results across many sectors, with a high cumulative investment value. In particular, transport connectivity, most notably the Laos–China Railway, has created significant new opportunities for expanding cooperation both now and in the future.

To build on these achievements, Luang Prabang Province has formulated a five-year socio-economic development strategy (2026–2030), with tourism as a core pillar. The strategy focuses on continued infrastructure development, including upgrading the international airport to strengthen regional and PRC connectivity, developing logistics service systems, improving urban cleanliness and beauty, and creating a more favorable environment for foreign investment in the province.

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Lao–China diplomatic relations, Mr. Bounlua Sinxayvolavong, on behalf of the Provincial Administration Committee and the people of Luang Prabang Province, expressed his hope that the Party, government, and people of both Lao PDR and China will continue to strengthen solidarity in line with the Four Goods principles, deepen cooperation as partners with a shared future, bring tangible benefits to the people of both nations, and ensure that bilateral cooperation continues to prosper and flourish.
