(KPL) On September 17, 2024, Vientiane Mayor, Atsaphangthong Siphandone, welcomed Siem Reap’s Deputy Governor, Ing Kim Lieng, in the Lao capital Vientiane.
The meeting took place during the ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) and the Network of Southeast Asian and East Asian Francophone Mayors Conference, hosted in Vientiane from September 17-19.
Mayor Atsaphangthong shared updates on Vientiane's socio-economic development, highlighting agriculture, industry, and service sector growth in early 2024, with increases of 4.2%, 7.05%, and 3.8% in GDP contribution, respectively.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration, particularly in tourism, heritage conservation, and urban waste management. They discussed exchanging experiences, with Siem Reap's rich history serving as a model.
The meeting aimed to bolster ties between Vientiane and Siem Reap, exploring future partnerships in urban planning and tourism, further solidifying the relationship between the two cities.
Deputy Governor Ing expressed his gratitude to the Mayor of Vientiane for the honor of meeting him, and he also conveyed his happiness and admiration for Vientiane’s role as the host of this conference. He wished the event great success in achieving its expected outcomes. This meeting is an important milestone in the collaboration between Siem Reap and Vientiane, aimed at strengthening cooperation and moving towards more concrete and fruitful partnerships in the future.
