(KPL) Guizhou Minzu University is one of Chinese universities that have involved in developing human resources for domestic and overseas labour markets, and the Laos-China Railway with no exceptions.
The Laos-China Railwayis a flagship project under China's "Belt and Road" Initiative, and a result of discussion, cooperation and relations between Laos and China.
“Human resource development plays an important role in national development, socio-economic development. Both countries must work together topromote education thus contributing to human resource development, and socio-economic development,” Minister of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR, Mr Phout Simmalavong said at the opening ceremony of the 2023 China-ASEAN Education Exchange.
Mr.Vixay Xayavong, a Lao alumnus of Guizhou Minzu University, China, currently works as an electric locomotive deputy driver at the Laos-China Railway. Vixay studied at Guizhou Minzu University from 2014-2016 majoring in Transportation Management.
During his study, he had thechance to intern at the Laos-China Railway. After his graduation, he returned to Laos.At that time, the Laos-China Railway project was under construction. The Laos-China Railway announced it needed a large number of employees. Vixay applied for the job with the large-scale international project.
Vixay was one of the best students admitted to the University of China. He can speak Chinese and has good professional skills.
The "Belt and Road" project in which China and Laos work together to build the Laos-China Railway over a distance of more than 1,000 kilometres, connecting Kunming, China and Vientiane, the capital of the Lao PDR, helps transform landlocked Laos into a lank-linked country. Moreover, it also provides Lao youth with job opportunities.
In order to meet the deadline for the opening and operation of the Laos-China Railway in 2019, Guizhou Minzu University and Kunming Railway Co., Ltd. signed a training plan for those with special abilities of the Laos-China railway to build up language skills with experts in various fields.
Ms. Phonevila Thepphavongsa
In December 2021, Ms Phonevila Thepphavongsa, a Business Administration graduate from Guizhou Minzu University started her job with the Laos-China Railway Station, currently works as a train crew of Laos-China Railway.
Phonevila, was one of the Lao students who received the first group of Laos-China Railway professionals trained for the Laos-China Railway project.
Phonevila said that when she was a child, she always dreamed to be a flight attendant. Whether it is in aviation or on a train. Laos didn’t have trains before but now Laos does. This is an opportunity for me, she added.
After her graduation in 2020, she returned to Laos, and applied to work with the China-Laos Railway.
Over the past two years, Phonevila has been travelling between Kunming and Vientiane, welcoming tourists from all over the world with attention and professional service. Phonevila said that when she saw the smiles on the faces of the passengers makes her very satisfied and happy.
Ms Soutchai Xaypanya
Ms Soutchai Xaypanya, also a graduate from Guizhou Minzu University, works at the Laos-China Railway Station. She is mainly responsible for cargo delivery on the Laos-China Railway. Soutchai also was one of the Lao students who received the first group of Laos-China Railway professionals trained for the Laos-China Railway project.
Today, Soutchai teaches Chinese language to Lao employees at Vientiane’ South Station, the largest freight station of the Laos-China Railway.
