Lao nationals share the largest proportion of the workforce at the copper and gold mining operations run by Phu Bia Mining Limited Company, the largest mining company in Xaysomboun, the youngest province.
The Lao workers numbered almost 3,400, representing 90 per cent of the manpower of copper, gold and silver mining operations for the company, according to the General Manager of External Affairs at Phu Bia Mining, Mr Richard Taylor.
In addition to offering employment opportunities, the company has also contributed a large amount of financial assistance to the Lao government to ensure its socio-economic development and poverty reduction.

In addition to offering employment opportunities, the company has also contributed a large amount of financial assistance to the Lao government to ensure its socio-economic development and poverty reduction.
Since its launch of mining operations in 2005, Phu Bia Mining has contributed more than US$400 million to the Lao government.
Last year the company’s contribution to the government reached over US$54 million.
“I am very proud to be part of a company that is providing financial support to the government to ensure its national socio-economic development. Our contribution covers the fields of education, health and infrastructure development,” said Mr Richard Taylor.
The Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation of Phu Bia Mining is the biggest gold mining operation in the country. Its annual production capacity is 100,000 ounces.
