(KPL) The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanthanhom Minithib, Vice President of the Lao Red Cross; Ms. Yumi Maeshawa, Health Representative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC); Mr. Khemphone Sivoravong, Head of the Community Health Promotion Office; the Head of the Emergency Health Department; the school director, teachers and other relevant participants.

This year’s World First Aid Day was held under the theme “First Aid in the Context of Migration” and the slogan “On the move, but never alone.”

In her keynote address, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanthanhom highlighted the growing importance of first aid for people travelling or migrating for employment, education, family reunification and other reasons. She noted that people away from their homes and communities may face greater difficulties accessing emergency assistance.

She stressed that first aid should not be regarded as the responsibility of medical professionals alone, saying that everyone can learn basic first aid skills and provide immediate assistance during emergencies.

The Lao Red Cross Vice President also encouraged students to apply what they learn, share first aid knowledge with their families and friends, and help build safer communities where people are not left without assistance in times of need.

Ms. Yumi Maeshawa expressed appreciation for the close cooperation between the IFRC and Lao Red Cross in promoting first aid and community health. She reaffirmed the IFRC’s readiness to continue supporting the Lao Red Cross in advancing first aid and health promotion activities.

The event provided an opportunity for students and participants to strengthen their awareness and practical knowledge of first aid and its role in saving lives and supporting communities during emergencies.
