PM Urges Swift Recovery from Floods and Landslides in Kaleum District

(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited Kaleum District, Sekong Province, on August 22, 2026, to assess damage caused by floods, flash floods and landslides and provide assistance to affected communities.

Kaleum District Party Secretary Saikham Keobounpan reported that natural disasters in August damaged roads, bridges, irrigation systems, farmland, fishponds, livestock, schools, health centres and other infrastructure. Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage.

The Prime Minister expressed concern over the impact on people's livelihoods and urged provincial and district authorities to provide immediate assistance, closely monitor high-risk areas and evacuate residents when necessary.

He called for urgent rehabilitation, stronger disaster preparedness and recovery plans, improved access to education and healthcare, continued rural development and poverty reduction, and greater community involvement in maintaining local roads.

Prime Minister Sonexay also handed over financial assistance, essential goods, medicines and medical equipment to the provincial and district authorities to support disaster relief and recovery efforts.
