Mrs. Sounthone Xayachack, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the National Assembly, has been appointed Acting President of the National Assembly and Acting President of the Standing Committee of the 10th National Assembly, effective August 18, 2026.
The appointment was announced by the Party Central Committee Organisation Commission on August 18 in a notification on the appointment of senior officials to new positions.
Under the notification, Mrs. Sounthone Xayachack, who also serves as Acting Secretary of the Party Committee of the National Assembly and Vice President of the Standing Committee of the 10th National Assembly, will assume the acting positions pending formal approval by the National Assembly.
She will continue serving in the acting positions until the National Assembly adopts a resolution approving the election of the President of the 10th National Assembly.
