Export Trends in Salavan Province Double

KPL Salavan Province Exports from Salavan Province have demonstrated remarkable growth, doubling over the past five years and reaching a total value of more than 13.728 trillion kip about 87% of the targeted 15.831 trillion kip. The province’s primary export commodities include agricultural products such as dried and raw cassava, processed flour, industrial goods, wood products, and forest materials. ASEAN countries remain the main markets, with export values exceeding $547 million.

(KPL) Salavan Province Exports from Salavan Province have demonstrated remarkable growth, doubling over the past five years and reaching a total value of more than 13.728 trillion kip about 87% of the targeted 15.831 trillion kip. The province’s primary export commodities include agricultural products such as dried and raw cassava, processed flour, industrial goods, wood products, and forest materials. ASEAN countries remain the main markets, with export values exceeding $547 million.

In contrast, imports totaled over 3.147 trillion kip, mainly consisting of fuel, industrial machinery, construction equipment, electrical appliances, and consumer goods.

At the Salavan Provincial Party Congress Meeting on August 6, 2025, Comrade Pradith Phonthan, Deputy Secretary of the Salavan Provincial Party Committee, reported on the successful implementation of the Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021–2025). The province has experienced steady, balanced, and sustainable economic growth, with its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reaching 36.047 trillion kip over five years. Per capita GDP in 2025 exceeded 17.97 million kip (approximately $915 at an exchange rate of 20.73 kip/USD). Revenue collection surpassed planned targets for two consecutive years.

Economic Structure, agriculture accounts for 56.5% of GDP, industry contributes 21.4% of GDP, services and import taxes make up 22.1% of GDP.

Agricultural Production

Over the five-year period, rice production reached 1.9 million tons, achieving 95% of the 2 million tons target. Commercial crop production hit 6 million tons, exceeding the plan by 74% compared to the previous five years. Specifically: Cassava production was over 5.6 million tons, surpassing the 1.5 million tons target.

Coffee production exceeded 154,000 tons, nearing the 176,000 tons goal, banana output reached over 523,000 tons, against a target of 700,000 tons.

Animal feed corn totaled over 58,000 tons, below the 170,000 tons target, Vegetable production was over 453,000 tons, slightly under the 558,000 tons goal.

Livestock Production

Livestock numbers increased across all categories during the period: Buffaloes grew from over 89,000 to more than 94,000, exceeding the 93,000 target, cattle increased from 130,000+ to 134,000+, still below the 152,000 target, pig populations stood at over 681,000, short of the 1.6 million target, goats rose from 30,000+ to 36,000+, compared to a 52,000 goal, fish production grew from 5.8 million tons to 7 million tons, surpassing the 5.7 million target, meat, fish, and fat supply averaged 55.2 kg per person annually, achieving 92% of the 60 kg per person per year target.

Commercial livestock farming is expanding, particularly pig farming in Khongsedone and Laongam districts, and poultry farming in Toumlane and Khongsedone districts. Increased fish fry production has also contributed to reduced import dependence.

Industrial Growth

The industrial sector has seen solid development, notably in construction material manufacturing, agricultural processing, wood processing, and food processing. By 2025, Salavan Province housed a total of 530 factories, including: 20 large-scale factories, 46 medium-scale factories, 316 small-scale factories, 148 household production units
