Provincial agriculture and forestry departments in Champasak and Attapeu, in collaboration with the Sustainable Forest Management and Restoration Project and with support from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), held a joint consultation in Champasak province on May 12 to finalize activity plans for 2025 aimed at reforestation and promoting sustainable agroforestry.
(KPL) Provincial agriculture and forestry departments in Champasak and Attapeu, in collaboration with the Sustainable Forest Management and Restoration Project and with support from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), held a joint consultation in Champasak province on May 12 to finalize activity plans for 2025 aimed at reforestation and promoting sustainable agroforestry.
The meeting, attended by Khamphoeun Budtho, Deputy Director of Champasak’s Agriculture and Forestry Department, along with stakeholders from both provinces, focused on reviewing progress made over the past year and laying out detailed strategies for the year ahead.
Discussions included plans to plant an additional 100 hectares of forest, contributing to a total restoration target of 4,441 hectares across nine target villages within Xe Pian and Dong Hua Sao National Protected Areas, assessment of reforestation zones based on land-use plans and upcoming site surveys ,updates on seedling availability from community nurseries, protected area nurseries, and local agriculture offices, as well as policy direction for supporting these initiatives, district-level planning for annual tree planting campaigns and targeted forest restoration in project areas and presentation of data on labor capacity to support sustainable forest-based livelihoods and the promotion of non-timber forest product development.
Participants also exchanged feedback on the collected data and shared insights to strengthen forest conservation and community-based natural resource management.
