(KPL) In a show of solidarity and enduring friendship, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) hosted a live broadcast of the Victory Day Parade held in Moscow, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War of Russia.
The event took place at the National Culture Hall in Vientiane on May 9.

The gathering was attended by Ms. Suansavanh Vignaket, Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Mr. Sinlavong Khoutphaythoun, President of the Lao Front for National Development, Mr. Vladimir Kalinin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Lao PDR, officials, military personnel, police officers and students as well as  members of the public to honor this historically significant occasion.

In her remarks, Minister Suansavanh praised the Russian government for organizing the parade in a grand and dignified manner, noting it as a powerful tribute to the sacrifices made during the Great Patriotic War.

She highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Laos and Russia, calling the two countries strategic partners with a legacy of friendly relations and cooperation.
"The Great Patriotic War was a monumental struggle, with the entire Soviet people—soldiers, workers, farmers, and citizens from all walks of life—united in their resistance and ultimate victory over Nazi Germany," she said. "This triumph remains a cornerstone of Russian national pride and historical memory."

To mark the occasion and express Laos’ solidarity, the Lao PDR dispatched an 80-member honor guard from the Lao People's Army to participate in the Moscow parade.

Minister Suansavanh concluded her speech by expressing hope for the continued strengthening of Lao-Russian relations, underscoring the shared values and mutual respect that have defined their cooperation over the decades.
