(KPL) During a three-day visit from 4-6 March to Huaphan province, the birthplace of the Lao PDR, Ms. Megan Jones, the Australian Ambassador to Laos, highlighted Australia’s commitment to deepening people-to-people links and economic engagement between Laos and Australia.
Ambassador Jones handed over 100 audio tour headsets to the Lao Leadership Caves Information Center in Viengxay District as part of the Australia-Laos Friendship Association activities.
The handover of the audio tour headsets aimed to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Laos and Australia, marked by the Comprehensive Partnership signed by Prime Ministers of the two countries one year ago.
While in Huaphan, Ambassador Jones paid a courtesy call to Mr Phoutphan Keovongxay, Vice Governor of Huaphan Province to discuss Australia’s support for Laos, and Huaphan Province.
“The Laos-Australia Comprehensive Partnership guides our work together in all areas and regions, including support for Laos’ socio-economic development priorities, deepening trade and investment, support for Laos’ climate change resilience and clean energy transition, and expanding our defence and law enforcement cooperation” she said.
Ambassador Jones was honoured to deliver remarks at the Australia Awards Scholarships information session, reaffirming Australia’s commitment to supporting human resource development in Laos.
The Ambassador also joined Australian logistics company Linfox to launch its investment in Huaphan province as part of the company’s business expansion across various regions of Laos. Since 2018, Linfox has trained over 200 Lao workers to Australian transport and logistics standards. 50 per cent of Linfox’s employees are women.
Under Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy, Australia is building on our strong and longstanding economic ties with the region and Laos to boost two-way trade and investment.
In 2024, Linfox signed an AUD 15 million contract with Carlsberg/Lao Brewery Company to transport products in Huaphan, Phongsaly and Vientiane provinces. This follows another deal in July the same year to provide forklifts to Carlsberg warehouses in Laos, valued at AUD 4 million.
