ASEAN Labor Inspection Committee Strengthens Regional Cooperation

KPL The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of Laos, as the chair of the ASEAN Labor Inspection Committee (ALICOM), hosted the 4th ASEAN Labor Inspection Committee Meeting via video conference. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Udon Maniboun, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor Management, and attended by representatives from ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretariat, Timor-Leste, and relevant international organizations.



Vientiane, February 25, 2025 (KPL)– The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of Laos, as the chair of the ASEAN Labor Inspection Committee (ALICOM), hosted the 4th ASEAN Labor Inspection Committee Meeting via video conference. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Udon Maniboun, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor Management, and attended by representatives from ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretariat, Timor-Leste, and relevant international organizations.



The meeting focused on enhancing the capacity of ALICOM and reviewing the progress of the ASEAN Labor Inspection Committee Action Plan (2022-2030). Key discussions included capacity-building for labor inspectors, monitoring hard-to-reach labor units, and the development of labor policies. Participants shared best practices, discussed implementation challenges, and explored strategies to improve labor inspection cooperation across the ASEAN region.


In his remarks, Mr. Udon Maniboun expressed gratitude to ASEAN member states and international organizations, including the International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the International Association of Labor Inspections. He also acknowledged the ASEAN project on addressing labor exploitation in the fisheries sector for its contributions toward strengthening labor inspection frameworks in the region.

The meeting reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to improving labor standards and promoting fair and safe working conditions across the region, in line with the ALICOM 2022-2030 plan.
