(KPL) During August 12-13, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, led a central government delegation to Huaphan Province to oversee and guide its socio-economic development initiatives.
The visit aimed to monitor progress and provide direction as part of the province's comprehensive development efforts.
DPM Saleumxay Kommasith met with the provincial leaders and officials from various sectors across the northern province. Mr. Khampheng Xaysompheng, Governor of Huaphan Province, briefed the Vice Premier about the province’s achievements and challenges.
The report covered the implementation of socio-economic development plans, national defense and public security, cultural and social initiatives, rural development, poverty reduction efforts, and foreign affairs.
The governor also highlighted the province’s progress and the challenges it faces as it moves towards the end of 2024, along with proposals for further development.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the provincial authorities, commending their dedication and responsibility in driving Huaphan Province's gradual progress. He also provided an analysis of the complex and unpredictable international landscape, particularly the geopolitical and economic tensions between major powers, which are impacting developing countries like Laos.

Mr. Saleumxay also shared the outcomes of the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related gatherings, held in Vientiane from July 24-27, 2024. He noted that these meetings were successful and laid a strong foundation for the upcoming 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits scheduled for October 2024.
The Vice Premier also emphasized the importance of developing a strategic plan for sustainable and environmentally friendly income generation in Huaphan Province.
DPM Saleumxay and his team also toured several business establishments in Viengxay, including a garment factory construction project in Hang Long village, a plantation project of the Houaphan Integrated Technical Vocational School, and the Huaphan Lao-Chinese Cement Factory in Muang Kang village. The visit served to encourage these initiatives and underline the government's support for local development efforts.
