PWT Minister Receives New Japanese Ambassador to Laos

KPL (KPL) Minister of Public Works and Transport (PWT), Mr. Ngamprasong Muangmani, received here in Vientiane on August 7, 2024 a courtesy visit from the new Japanese Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu.

(KPL) Minister of Public Works and Transport (PWT), Mr. Ngamprasong Muangmani, received here in Vientiane on August 7, 2024 a courtesy visit from the new Japanese Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu.

At amicable talks, Minister Ngamprasong expressed his warm welcome and congratulations to Ambassador Koizumi on his new appointment.

He also conveyed his appreciation for the strong cooperation between Laos and Japan, which has significantly contributed to socio-economic development in the Lao PDR, particularly in the areas under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

This includes the development of human resources, the construction and improvement of national highways, bridge construction, the renovation of Wattay International Airport, the expansion of water supply systems, urban planning, and public transportation.

Furthermore, in 2022, the Japanese government provided substantial support with equipment for road maintenance, including repairs of national highways No. 8 and No. 9, valued at 800 million yen.

In 2024, Japan continued its support with 1.5 billion yen for phase 2 of the road maintenance project and 1 billion yen for equipment for aviation work.

Additionally, many buses have been provided at various intervals. The year 2025 will mark the 70th anniversary of Laos-Japan diplomatic relations, and both countries are prepared to celebrate this milestone to further promote friendship and enhance cooperation, leading to even greater development.

Ambassador Koizumi expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from Minister Ngamprasong and was honored to take on his new responsibilities in Laos.

He also affirmed his commitment to continue supporting and cooperating with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in the development of infrastructure, human resources, and strengthening the sector for continuous growth.
