On October 19, 2026, at the Vientiane Administration Office, Mr. Athsaphangthong Siphandone, President of the People’s Council of Vientiane, received a farewell courtesy call from Ms. Megan Jones, Ambassador of Australia to the Lao PDR, along with her delegation, upon the completion of her diplomatic mission in the Lao PDR.
On this occasion, Mr. Athsaphangthong Siphandone extended his warm welcome and commended Ms. Megan Jones on the successful conclusion of her diplomatic tenure. He highlighted her significant contributions to enhancing and deepening the long-standing traditional relations and friendship between the two nations.
The Lao government and people, particularly the residents of Vientiane, highly appreciate the Ambassador’s dedicated efforts throughout her posting.
Ms. Jones was lauded as an active diplomat who consistently strived to nurture the traditional ties of friendship and cooperation between Laos and Australia, as well as between their people, while continually providing support and assistance to the Lao government and Vientiane.
Furthermore, Mr. Athsaphangthong Siphandone wished the Ambassador and her delegation a safe journey home and every success in her future endeavours.
In response, Ms. Jones expressed her sincere gratitude to the host for the warm hospitality extended to her and her delegation.
She also expressed her deep appreciation to the local authorities for their continuous support and cooperation throughout her tenure, which contributed greatly to the success of her diplomatic mission.
