(KPL ) The 5th Book Festival 2024 will be held on March 27-31, starting at 9:00-17:00 at the National University of Laos

The book festival expected to draw more than 40 shops participating in the exhibition and selling products such as: bookstores, printing houses, fine arts, general shops, Mr. Sommay Phomachan, Director of Dibook Printing Office, told at a press conference on March 2.

The festival is a part to implement the human resource development strategy of the Lao PDR until 2025 according to the policies of the party and the government and a strategy to conserve and promote the nation's fine culture to all people in promoting reading to two third of the population by 2025.

This event is to encourage and promote Lao people, children and students love reading and see how importance of reading and become progressive intellectuals of society in the future.

At the same time, it also celebrates the 25th anniversary of World Poetry Day (March 21), and International Women's Day (March 8, the 114th anniversary) and welcoming the the 69th anniversary of Lao People's Revolutionary Party on March 22.

      The Ministry of Educations and Sports (MoES), with the support of the Australian Government through the Basic Education Quality and Access in Lao PDR (BEQUAL) program completed the final photo shoot to capture images that illustrate how to implement the practical strategies in the new Teacher Support Pack (TSP) 14 “Supporting Students with Disability in the Classroom”. Representatives from the Department of Teacher Education (DTE), the Inclusive Education Promotion Centre (IEPC), and Vientiane Province Provincial and District Education Services (PESS) joined.

      A high-level delegation led by Mrs. Daravone Kittiphanh, Vice Minister of Education and Sports (MoES) of Lao PDR , and Ms. Benita Sommerville, Deputy Ambassador at the Australian Embassy, visited Xiangkhouang Province from 10–12 December to review progress in improving teaching quality and promoting inclusive classroom practices. The visit highlighted the school-based Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system and the new Grade 1 Spoken Lao approach being implemented with Australian support through the BEQUAL program. The delegation observed how these two initiatives are beginning to transform teaching and learning across the country.

      The Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR (MoES), with support from the Australian Government through the BEQUAL program, began filming the fourth episode of the national Education Promotion campaign this week. Led by the Research Institute for Educational Sciences (RIES) and produced by RIES’ Information Media Center (IMC), the episode titled “The Village That Supported Education” highlights a compelling, community-driven response to declining school attendance and demonstrates how collective action can help secure brighter futures for children.
