(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone received in Vientiane on Thursday Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto who was on a working visit to the Lao PDR (April 26-27).

Expressing a warm welcome to the guest, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone highly valued Mr. Peter Szijjarto’s visit as a significant contribution to strengthening the traditional and fruitful relations and cooperation based on the Lao-Hungarian strategic partnership.

The Prime Minister welcomed the results of the meeting between the Hungarian minister and his Lao counterpart Saleumxay Kommasith, noting that the meeting reaffirms the traditional relations, mutual understanding and mutual trust between the high-level leaders of the two countries. 

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone highly valued the bilateral relations and cooperation between both sides which have been growing in many fields, especially politics, diplomacy, agriculture, education, and finance.

PM Sonexay expressed thanks on behalf of the government and people of Laos for the assistance and support the Hungarian government and people have provided to the Lao PDR over the past years, noting that the assistance and support have contributed significantly to the socio-economic development in Laos.

The premier also briefed the guest about major achievements in socio-economic development in Laos and the country’s preparation for ASEAN Chairmanship 2024.

In reply, Mr Peter Szijjarto informed the host about the objective of his working visit to Laos, and agreed to further enhance the relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields and appreciated the Lao PDR’s reopening of its embassy in Hungary in late 2022, saying that this is a landmark in strengthening the relations and cooperation between Laos and Hungary.
