Vocational Education helps to improve labor skills in Laos

KPL (KPL) Twenty-five government officers from the Training Institute of the Ministry of Social Welfare and from the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos are attending a training course named Competency Based Curriculum Design and Development. The training, which is being held from 3 to 7 August, is to increase the knowledge level of Lao trainers of vocational education to create and develop future training courses. The training is focusing on the evaluation of labor skill competency to ensure long term economic growth.

(KPL) Twenty-five government officers from the Training Institute of the Ministry of Social Welfare and from the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos are attending a training course named Competency Based Curriculum Design and Development.

The training, which is being held from 3 to 7 August, is to increase the knowledge level of Lao trainers of vocational education to create and develop future training courses. The training is focusing on the evaluation of labor skill competency to ensure long term economic growth.

Mr. Phouvan Chanthavong, Head of the Skill Development and Employment Department, said at the opening ceremony that the training is an activity to fulfill the Prime Minister’s directive number 036 to build and develop labor skills in the country.  It is also an important key to national socio-economic development to modernize the country’s industry as it prepares to join the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

The training was co-organized by the Skill Development and Employment Department of the Ministry of Social Welfare in cooperation with the Vocational Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos and the Shiangsen Labor Skill Development Institute of Thailand and the National Labor Skills Development Department of Thailand.

The opening ceremony of the training was attended by the Head of the Skill Development and Employment Department, Mr. Phouvan Chanthavong, the Head of the Vocational Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr. Nouphan Oudsa, and the Deputy Director of the National Labor Skills Development Department of Thailand, Mr. Sinhadej Shuamnath.
