KPL Namsang Secondary School welcomed a newly refurbished library on November 27, marking another milestone in educational cooperation between Laos and Malaysia.

The handover ceremony was attended by Mr. Edi Irwan bin Mahmud, Malaysian Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Xayadeth Xongmixay, Deputy Director General of the General Education Department, Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr. Khampaseuth Buddavong, Vice Chairman of the Sangthong District Administration Committee and other officials from both sides.

The refurbishment project, funded by the Government of Malaysia, reaffirms Malaysia’s continued support for education in Sangthong District. The collaboration builds on Malaysia’s earlier assistance in 2016, when it funded the construction of the school’s original library.

In his remarks, Ambassador Edi Irwan  highlighted the significance of the project, noting that education remains a key pillar of sustainable development in both Malaysia and Laos.

“This newly refurbished library holds special meaning for us, as it represents a continuation of Malaysia’s commitment to supporting education and community development,” he said. “We believe that strong educational foundations are essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the priorities outlined in Laos’ 9th and forthcoming 10th National Socio-Economic Development Plans.”

He added that Malaysia is honored to contribute to empowering the younger generation while strengthening the long-standing friendship between the two nations. “May this library continue to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning,” he concluded.

Speaking on behalf of Lao authorities, Mr. Bounthan Sengmany, Deputy Head of the Vientiane Capital Education and Sports Division, expressed deep appreciation for Malaysia’s ongoing support.

“This renovation continues the valuable assistance the Malaysian Embassy has provided to Sangthong District,” he said. “The original library served the school for many years, and today’s improvements will allow it to continue benefiting students and teachers well into the future.”

Mr. Bounthan emphasized that such support contributes not only to the education sector but also to broader socio-economic development by strengthening human resource capacity.

“We express our highest gratitude to the Malaysian Embassy for this effective and meaningful support. This library creates new opportunities for research, study, and learning,” he added, affirming the commitment of local authorities to maintain and utilize the facility to its fullest potential.“We sincerely hope to continue receiving such meaningful cooperation in the future.”
