(KPL) Vilabouly, Savannakhet Province was announced as a poverty-free district last week.
The announcement of the poverty freed district took place at the Vilabouly District Administration Office in the presence of Minister to the Government Office, Mr Bounheuang Douangphachan, who is also the Head of the National Committee for Rural Development and Poverty Reduction, the Governor of Savannakhet Province, Dr Souphan Keomixay, local authorities and people of Vilabouly district.
Mr Buason Mahavang, the Chief of Vilabouly district said, “Today, the economy of the district has been growing at an average of 7.7% per year and has pushed the district’s annual GDP to over 2.2 billion kip (almost US$270,000) and per capita income in the district has increased to an average of 5 million kip (over US$600)

Over the past few years, authorities of the district have been focusing on road and bridge construction, and renovation of the villages, while also providing remote areas with access to electricity.
Currently, over 60 villages or nearly 90% of the district has gained access to electricity with another 13 villages to gain access in the near future.
The government has granted permission to investors to invest in mining projects, mainly of gold, copper, and barite.
Investments in the mining sector have contributed to the development of the district.
