(KPL) Souphaphone Somvichith, 20, a student at Comcenter College was crowned as Miss Universe Laos at the final round of Miss Universe Laos 2017.

Crowned as Miss Universe Laos, Souphaphone will represent Laos at Miss Universe 2017 to be held by the end of this year. Yet the country to host the event is yet to be decided.

Miss Souphaphone received a diamond crown worth 80 million kip, and 100 million kip cash (USD $12000), a special award (insurance) of 1.6 billion kip from the Thep Chaleun Insurance Company and a gift voucher worth 50 million kip.

She was also awarded Miss Best Personality worth 25 million kip.

Laos and its neigbour Cambodia will have their pageants contesting in the world’s Miss Universe event for the first time this year.

The final round of Miss Universe Laos contest was held at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane Capital on Aug 26.

The 1st runner-up of Saturday’s night event was On-Anong Homsombath (MUL 9). Meanwhile the 2nd to 4th runners-up were Varissara Tangsouvanh (MUL 5), Souksavanh Luanglath (MUL 1) and Malisa Sidachanh (MUL 6), respectively.

Miss Souphaphone, the second runner up of Miss Vientiane 2016, has already won several modeling gigs, with the most notably being featured as the cover girl of the famous Mahason Magazine Issue 2015.
