Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone paid a courtesy visit to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 35th Anniversary ASEAN–Russia Relations Summit, held from 17–19 June 2026 in Kazan.
During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between Laos and Russia, emphasizing continued cooperation based on mutual trust, understanding, and shared interests.
Prime Minister Sonexay congratulated Russia on successfully hosting the summit and noted that the event demonstrated Moscow’s active role in promoting regional and international cooperation. He also highlighted Laos’ commitment to strengthening ASEAN–Russia relations, describing Russia as an important dialogue partner of ASEAN.
Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining close collaboration and mutual support in regional and international forums while expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest.
The meeting underscored the Lao PDR’s commitment to fostering balanced, mutually beneficial ties with Russia and to deepening cooperation under the broader ASEAN–Russia partnership.
