KPL Vientiane leaders and local Buddhist devotees gathered at Vat Chan in Chanthabouly District on October 26, 2026, to offer alms and sangkhathan to monks and novices, marking Boun Ork Phansa, the end of Buddhist Lent.

(KPL) The ceremony was attended by Mr. Atsaphangthong Siphandone, Secretary of the Committee of the Vientiane Party Committee and President of the Vientiane People’s Council, and Mrs. Soumaly Thammavong, Secretary of the Chanthabouly District Party Committee and Head of the 5th Legislature Vientiane People’s Council Member Delegation for the district, alongside local officials and devotees.

Boun Ork Phansa marks the completion of the three-month rainy-season retreat observed by monks and novices. Offering alms and sangkhathan, or supplies for the monastic community, is a longstanding Lao Buddhist tradition that encourages generosity and merit-making.

The occasion is also associated with Pavarana, a monastic observance in which monks invite one another to offer constructive advice and point out shortcomings with good intentions after living together during the retreat.
